How do you pass the time when dining alone? – USATODAY.com

Dining alone on the road always comes with a series of choices, even after you’ve settled on a restaurant. Do you take a solo table and people-watch? Bring a book or a magazine to pass the time between courses? Or perhaps sit at the bar and hope to strike up an interesting conversation?

Now, for better or for worse, another option has entered the dining room: the smartphone. From texting to surfing to the ever-growing trend of taking food photos to post on social media sites, a growing number of solo diners are seeking diversion on the small screen.

I like to do a mixture of all the above to pass the time. Depends on if there is free wireless (which all airports really should have). Or if I’ve got some points, maybe chill at one of the lounges.
